About us
We are five students of the Master Program “Human Technology in Sports and Medicine” at the German Sport University Cologne, Germany. Each of us comes from a completely different area of sport, but we have one thing in common: The fascination for movement and biomechanics. We believe that it is a very underestimated part of sports and movement science and hope that this website will help to generate more attention for this exciting topic.

Boris Dragutinovic
Hi, I am Boris, 23 years old and I am studying the Master M.Sc. Performance, Training and Coaching in elite sports. My main topics of interest are exercise physiology, performance diagnostics and the application of scientific knowledge in strength and endurance training. I also do strength and endurance sports myself, whereby I am particularly fascinated by the combination of both abilities!

Jonas Ebbecke
Hey!
My name is Jonas Ebbecke and I had the eager idea for The Biomechanist. I grew up in the beautiful small town of Lingen, Germany. At school, my greatest interests were mathematics, physics and of course sports. I spent my free time with performance-oriented rowing. After school, I was convinced by the prospect of studying human body adaption processes as a sports student. When I graduated, I wanted to return to my original interests and could unite them perfectly in my Master's program "M.Sc. human Technology in Sports and Medicine". During my studies I have found more and more joy in cycling in all imaginable forms. Now, I do triathlon and ride road-, gravel-, enduro- and cross country bikes.
How awesome is it that I can focus completely on cycling biomechanics in my PhD studies as well?

Lasse Hansen
"Moin!",
as we say in my hometown Hamburg, Germany. My background is an undergraduate in movement science, where I focused on sports related injury and its prevention. Whilst working in sports rehabilitation therapy, I realized how big the potential of a deep technical understanding can be in order to facilitate a healthy, active life for patients. The idea of combining technical and medical knowledge, finding individual solutions and implementing them in people´s everyday life is what fascinates me most about applied biomechanics.

Jasper Johns
Hi, I'm Jasper!
Back in 2014 I moved from Berlin to Cologne to study Sports and Performance at the German Sport University Cologne. During my undergrad studies I was introduced to scientific working and methods and realized that I wanted to pursue a career in research. In my free time you can either find me in the climbing gym, being outdoors, hanging out with friends or riding my street bike around cologne.
Right now I'm working on my masters thesis in the field of ergonomics about the possibility of using exoskeletons in an industrial setting. In this project I have developed a new methodology for direct force measurements in exoskeletons, conducted multiple 3D movement analysis measurements with VICON, connected and synchronized external force data and have analyzed lots and lots of data.

Matthias Thelen
Hello everyone,
What fascinates me about biomechanics is the interdisciplinary combination of natural sciences like mathematics and physics with sport and medical science. As these subjects already interested me during my school time, I did my undergraduate in sports medical engineering. Besides my studies I am a passionate surfer and would like to implement biomechanic research methods into surfing science. At the moment I am working at the biomechanics institute of the German Sport University Cologne and working on a footwear science project.
